The Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of the most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai. It is the most adored. For Loy Kratong festival, new students and Chiang Mai inhabitants depart from the university and walk all the way to the temple, carrying lanterns and lights. The temple offers an excellent viewpoint on Chiang Mai valley... if the weather is fair and the fog has disappeared! The temple is accessed through a twenty-kilometre drive from the city centre. The road is winding and Thai drivers love to cut in the curves, therefore driving on the other lane! Apart from these small frights, the road and the view are very beautiful. This temple is located on the Doi Suthep Mountain that culminates at 1676 meters. It is the highest in Thailand. After the temple, the road goes on and it is possible to visit the royal Phuping Palace at Doi Pui and hill tribes villages.
